- What Does It Say?
What Is A Sick Note?
It is a written statement by a medical professional which confirms a person’s inability to work due to illness or injury.
A sick note (also called a medical certificate or fit note) serves as official documentation that validates your health condition and the time you need to recover.
Why Do You Need A Sick Note?
- Provides official proof of illness or injury for employers, schools, and other institutions
- Supports your return to work or school with proper documentation
- Helps you claim Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) and other workplace benefits
- Assists schools in tracking absences, assessing academic impact, and offering support to students
What Does It Say?
It says that the employee is either ‘not fit for work’ or ‘maybe fit for work’. If it says that the employee is ‘maybe fit for work’, the doctor should mention what they think that employee is able to do.
Employers should discuss the changes that can help the employee return to work, like changes in their working hours or tasks. If there is no agreement on these changes then the employee should be considered ‘not fit for work’.
